Overview of Work/Interest:

A Donegal support group for fathers experiencing difficulties due to relationship breakdown - dealing with issues regarding their children, legal considerations, parental equality, housing and finanical issues etc.

The group meet 3 times monthly at:

  • Family Enrichment Centre, Stranorlar (behind St Columba’s College) first Monday every month from 8pm
  • Bonagee Fc Clubhouse, Letterkenny (off Dry Arch Roundabout) third Monday every month from 8pm
  • Inishowen Partnership, Buncrana, second Tuesday per month from 8pm

The support group have lobbied locally and raised issues in the local media. Success to date includes a meeting with a local TD and Senator plus membership of the Donegal Gender Focus Group.

The group is open to fathers from the Donegal/Derry/Tyrone area. All meetings are confidential, relaxed & friendly. Tell your story, be listened to, get some advice, do not suffer in isolation!!!

Our recent report can be viewed at http://www.dads-house.com and http://www.dergfinn.com

The group finished an 'Introduction to Counselling' course for non-resident fathers; are compiling a directory of useful services for non-resident fathers in Donegal; are involved in a drama-based educational tool on suicide and non-resident fathers.

Since this the group have developed a booklet for non-resident fathers to be launched in October 2007.
